Doc noticed this eBay UK auction for the PopeMobile (not the authentic Pope Mobile as we know it) but Pope Benedict XVI’s former personal car, a 1999 VW Golf Wagon acquired by GoldenPalace.com. The auction ended without a winner, in what’s getting to be very common occurrence these days.

But i couldn’t help but notice the sellers explanation why the cars VIN was not auto decoded and added by eBay’s system: “Wasn’t able to add VIN number automatically and was advised by eBay to include it here: WVWZZZ1JZXB147983” That’s really embarrassing.

And even more embarrassing is this is just a very common 1999 VW Golf with a standard 17 Character VIN (1981 to present) and eBay’s VIN Decoder barfed on it. Internet VIN decoder link. 🙄

But, eBay CEO John “I Wanna Be Amazon” Donahoe, received $29.7 MILLION in compensation last year. But eBay can’t fix it’s clunky Motors VIN Decoder that has been assisting scammers for many years.

Someone call a Tow Truck and Haul EBM to the Junk Yard where it can die in peace. 😆
